Even though it works great as a handheld game, it's also on PS4 under the name Gal*Gunvolt Burst if you don't have a Switch.NEWS The Nintendo Switch version has been updated to 1.4.2! Check here for details. 9 turned out, I HIGHLY recommend you get this game if you haven't already as it's literally everything you actually wanted and more.
If you were salty about the way Mighty No. Overall, Mighty Gunvolt Burst is a top tier Mega Man rival and deserves to be lighting up the eShop charts. There's Ray, who can melee and constantly loses health but can attack enemies to regain it, Joule who can temporarily break CP limits and use whatever overpowered shot she wants, Copen who has a robot that follows him around for extra firepower, Tenzou who can crouch and slide and free-aim in Doki Doki Mode, Kurona who's fast and can break through enemy shields, and even Call who gets helper robots throughout the stage and can use three of her (better) alternate character designs from the MN9 Kickstarter campaign. Then there's the many $2 DLC characters who allow for even more variety in playthroughs. She's really weak compared to the others, but if you fill up a meter she can turn invincible for a while.
The base game has Gunvolt, who can double jump and use special attacks, and you can also get Ekoro for free by transferring data from the demo. You don't just play as Beck in this game - you can play as 8 other MN9, Azure Striker Gunvolt, and Gal*Gun characters, all of whom totally change up the gameplay. Each stage has at least two rare items that require you to fully complete the stage to obtain one (thus you'll have to play stages multiple times to get everything), as well as other items hidden behind destructible walls - of course, you can add a Dowsing feature to your shots to make the controller rumble when you're near a secret wall.Īnyway, all this combined with the fun level design and great boss battles would be enough, but no, Inti Creates goes the extra mile. Items can be CP boosts, extra customization elements for your shots/character, or Pixel Stickers that you can use for your personal avatar and/or shot icons. These items add a huge amount of replay value. You get CP by collecting small amounts scattered around the levels, or by getting Rare Items. If you don't have enough CP, you won't be able to use your customized shot, and the more broken elements (such as increasing your damage output) cost a ton of CP. If you could make tons of insanely cheap shots the game would be braindead easy though, so you have CP limits. Boss weaknesses are also present in the form of "elements", so rather than needing, say, a specific electric-themed weapon, you can just add a Shock element to whatever shot you want. You can change the bullet size, how many shots you fire, toggle charge shots, make them curve, reflect off surfaces, explode upon contact, reduce the damage you take while using that type of shot, etc. Like Mega Man, Beck can shoot projectiles based on what the bosses use, but it's just a visual effect in this game with no actual difference from the normal shot - instead, you can customize each shot to an insane degree. Mighty Gunvolt Burst's real draw is that basically takes Mega Man's ability to copy enemy powers and goes wild with it. TBH it's not really that important and you can completely ignore the mechanic if you don't care about score, but it can be less useless when you're playing as alternate characters with meters that fill faster when you get a Burst. With this you can get a "Burst" by killing an enemy while standing close to it, which gives you a score boost and keeps your Burst combo going. First off, Beck no longer has his stupid dash-to-kill gimmick from MN9, instead replacing it with the titular Burst.
